Not that cool. This is an old slow program that is kind of fun for a minute, but really is not that great. If you are a hardcore Simpsons fan then it is kind of cool for the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons and a few other assorted things, but really not that great.

It is worth checking out for a couple of bucks, but not much more than that.

I purchased Virtual Springfield for my sons. The computer disc came promptly, sooner than expected. The disc worked one day. Since the one time that the children used this disc, it has not worked. I have tried it on 2 PCs, 3 MACs (it is supposed to be read both by PCs and MACs). I have taken it to work and tried it on my computer at work. We have tried it on the original computer where it worked the first time. The disc no longer works. It is not damaged in any way that I can discern. When I called the technical support number, it rings to a private residence. The answering machine states that it is not the technical support desk. This leads me to believe that I am not the only one who has had problems with this computer disc. Needless to say, my childen are immensely disappointed. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend that this item be purchased. If I could give it less than one star, I would.

While the curse began with "Cartoon Studio" for many Simpsons fans, it began with Virtual Springfield for me. Now, I'll began by saying that this is one of the worst designed game ever. The developers attempted to use the "Kids game" excuse, but they even fail at that.

Using myself as an example, I first got this game when I was seven years old. At this particular time in my life, I was EXTREMELY easy to please, but this game couldn't even achieve that.

The first and instantly noticeable problem with this game is that it is choppy and poorly programmed. I first played this game on a poor PC, but I later got a high end PC. I decided to give this game a second chance and I discovered something in the process. The game is choppy because it is poorly designed and programmed, not because my old PC was bad. If you were to look at the requirements, you could see that is is VERY low. The high end PC I had contained specs at least 5-10x higher than the requirements, yet the game was STILL choppy.

And it's not just some parts of the game, it's EVERY part. When you turn, when you walk, when you do ANYTHING, you will notice the choppiness. That is, of course, assuming you have 20/20 vision or are wearing your glasses. Then again, you might notice it either way.

The next and the second most noticeable problem is that the game has no substance. There are very few things you could do and the few things you could gets boring quickly. For example, the main thing you will be doing is simply exploring Springfield. This is all nice and good, but what happens when you explored everywhere? Absolutely nothing. The game ends there. Of course, you could also collect cards, but it is so ridiculously easy that you can probably finish by the time you're done exploring. Hell, at the time I first got this, I couldn't solve ANY kind of puzzle, yet I did it anyway. In addition to this, the few minigames that are here are simply terrible. They were made to only take your attention for a minute or two. There are freeware online that are better than these minigames.

Now, Virtual Springfield has already committed two of the the worst possible crimes for PC games (bad programming and no gameplay), but to make the whole package even worse, it's expensive. At the current time of this review, the lowest price offered for this game on Amazon is $10.99. Selling a game THIS bad and that you could beat in less than one day for anything higher than $3 should be a federal offense punishable by 50 lashings.

Overall, it is a terrible game that has once again proven that the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". I had thought that since this was a free roaming Simpsons game, it would rock the casbah, but I now realized my mistake. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Speaking as a big simpson fan I really like this game!It's not as much a game as it is an interactive envirernment ripped from the show!The 3d when walking on the street is okay but the 2d areas look great!Plus the characters are voiced by the voice acters from the show.And there are many many events that fans will reconize from the show!Oh and it contains two new itchy and scratchy shorts!I could keep going on and on with the details on this but I don't want to waste your time.So I will finish by saying that if you are a simpsons fan get it!

In April 2008, I bought iScrapbook v.1 and found it to be refreshingly user-friendly and intuitive, compared to more complicated Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I consider myself pretty computer-savvy and like that I can create a very professional and beautiful page without having to think too hard about it while I'm doing it. Yes, the available backgrounds and elements are somewhat basic, however with all of the free digital downloadable kits on the internet, you can easily add to your collection of backgrounds and elements, so the possibilities are truly endless for what you can make. I suggest googling "digital scrapbooking free downloads" and you will see a wealth of sites you can join, making you eligible to download the freebies. On the downside: I do occasionally have trouble opening the software: it ends abruptly and then I Just have to open it up again and then it's fine. The newer version supposedly fixed that bug but frankly I'm afraid to upgrade after reading the other reviews. I too had painfully slow or no response from iChronos Support. Another problem is that sometimes after creating, naming and saving a page, when I open the program later the page that I named and saved is now blank, which shocked and scared me at first until I realized that the page I had created is actually still there, just without a name, so I have to rename it. I suggest saving every page you create as both a jpg file and as an iScrapbook file, just to ensure you will never lose anything. I also suggest buying a large (16 GB) flash drive to back up your finished pages. Everything I do is digital now, and I can even view the finished pages on my TV. I love this software so much; it has truly changed my life. I no longer go for days or weeks without getting time/space to "scrap"; I can easily start and finish a page in minutes. There are no pieces of clutter laying around for my kid or cat to mess up. Everything is in my laptop now and I love that I can even scrapbook on car trips. I could go on and on. I think you get the hint that I'm truly addicted. I also am thrilled that iScrapbook has enabled me to go "green" with my favorite hobby. I no longer print out my pages since I can view them on my laptop or TV quickly and easily, and I'm saving money on paper, ink, etc. I like being able to email the jpgs to friends and family, and the fact that I no longer spend fortunes on the old-fashioned scrapbooking "stuff". I have volumes of the old-fashioned scrapbooks and can honestly say that you can create almost every effect digitally. I am always learning something new from the professional digital designers out there on the Web, so it never gets old for me. I hope this review helps those of you who may have gotten turned off by the other reviews. iScrapbook has taken me to a new level in this hobby and despite the support issues, they deserve some credit for a terrific product. Thanks!

"Software does not work -- Terrible customer service!!!" 2009-10-22

I was really excited to buy this software and I spent hours importing extra papers, embellishments, etc. Then I created my first page and it looked great! I went to save the page and thought it worked, so I closed the software. I tried to find the page I made and it was nowhere on my computer. I tried to save a few test pages and the software will not allow me to save anything that I work on!

Then the software started acting up even more -- it temporarily wouldn't allow me to drag and drop items onto the page until I rebooted my computer. Then, about 10 times in a row the software would unexpectedly shut down and I would lose everything I was working on.

I posted my problems for the company online and received no response at all. Not a single thing on their site helped with my problems and no one returned my questions. I am so mad that I spent $50 on this software! I was really looking forward to it as it seemed to be great. This is the biggest disappointment of a software and company support that I've ever seen.

Do not waste your money on this!!!!!

I had high hopes for this software, and version 1.0 was okay, but this version is atrocious. Making the situation even worse is that customer support from Chronos Software is so unbelievably bad, I almost wish I could give this product negative stars.

Font controls are positively medieval. Rather than being geared for decorative titles, they are more fitting for Microsoft Word for Windows 95. The shapes tool is just as dated.

Version 1.0 made it easy to use artwork with the application. With this version, however, Chronos opened its own artwork store online and made it very difficult to use artwork from other sources. You can't import other scrapbook assets (such as other papers, or embellishments) from outside of iScrapbook, which means items you use frequently, like a brad or ribbon, must be dragged and dropped every time you use it.

It would be better to save your money and spend $70 for Photoshop Elements. There is much more flexibility with layouts. Most importantly, when most of the digital scrapbook community isn't using iScrapbook's proprietary kits, it seems silly to limit yourself by using this application.

Finally, the most frustrating part of using this application is the software support. I have sent emails, posted messages on their corporate message board, all to no avail. I can see there are staff members reading the message board, but they almost never reply to questions. Considering the software manual has very little information, basic inquiries should get some sort of response. A question such as, "How do I use this scrap kit I just purchased?" should merit a quick tutorial somewhere on their site.

I buy a lot of software for a lot of different uses and this is, without a doubt, the most disappointing purchase I've made in a very long time.

I purchased iscrapbook a few weeks ago and have yet to have it operate properly. The product could be fabulous and I have made a few fantastic scrap pages, but all of the features do not work properly. I cant get the clip art to work. Their free upgrade to 2.0 erases everything that 1.0 came with rendering it useless so dont bother. I received minimal feedback from customer service, and I am unable to load anything from the iscrapbook website. I do NOT recommend buying this product. I am now in search of a different program. This one was a waste of time and money.

It was really cool how this CDROM was put together. Very user friendly & easy to install & run. You can hear the finished product, watch the guitar tabs to see how it is played with adjustable MIDI Music control to speed it up or slow it down. Mute the part you want to play & jam along with the band. Cool stuff! It also includes a brief history of the song & the artist, which is always interesting.

If I had had this type of instruction as a teen I probably wouldn't have sucked so bad as a musician. I would have been able to better keep up my interest & enthusiam because CDROMs like this provide continuous access & infinite patience in teaching the more difficult songs & unique styles. I always learned from friends who gave me 5 minutes, then walked.

Granted this CD includes a diverse, "something-for-everyone" approach adding classical & country tunes to rock & blues. For that I only gave it four stars & also because there is no clip of the musician actually playing the guitar on the Demo like Voyetra's "Teach Me Rock Guitar". But it must be conceded that Voyetra could only fit four songs on their CD while this one has 21 diverse tunes. eMedia website also provides good software support for these guitar series.

The audio versions have track muting capability so you can mute the vocal or the Guitar or Bass. I purchased this product from american_book_company because they had the lowest price. I can see why. It doesn't work on newer macs. They also offered no support and refused to accept a return. So if it doesn't work on your system you've essentially wasted your money. I've bought many Cantonese learning products on Amazon. This is the most the lease professional looking one. It just has three cheap looking disks rattling around in a large box. I would give it half a star. I've also bought the Pimsleur Cantonese Gold course, and Teach Yourself Cantonese, and they're both great. I'd buy them in a heartbeat, though not from American Book Company.

This is a great reference material for someone who already has some exposure to Cantonese. The lessons are not structured well and I wouldn't recommend this as a sole study guide. If you've already completed a course like Pimsleur's Cantonese I or the Teach Yourself Cantonese course by Hugh Baker, this will help you fill in some of the blanks in your vocabulary. There are e-dictionaries included that make excellent reference materials. You have the English word, the kanji (simplified or traditional) and the romanized Cantonese spelling. One of these also has a sound clip for each word.

You won't really learn much grammar here, but it's a good place to beef up your vocabulary. Especially if you have a native speaker to practice with you.

The package and online description are very misleading. If you need web photos, it is agood deal, tho some of the content is a little strange.

Other new tools include Polyline and Pen. Polyline enables you to create lines and objects segment by segment, where each segment can be straight or curved. Pen is similar to the pen tool in Adobe Photoshop, offering a quick and easy way to create Bezier curves.

Other handy new features include the ability to snap one object to another and to simplify shapes and extract the outline of one from another when they overlap. The Align and Distribute dialog is now "modeless," making it easier to work with when lining up objects.

CorelDRAW 11 introduces Symbols to its repertoire, too. These are not the same as the symbol fonts that the program has offered for many years, but rather a way of saving and reusing drawn elements more efficiently than copying and pasting them. The advantage of symbols is that you can reuse "instances" of them, while only one description is stored in the drawing file. This saves considerable file space, which is particularly important when drawing Web graphics.

Quite a few of the improvements in CorelDRAW 11 help when designing for the Internet. There's much improved support for industry-standard file types, such as SVG and compressed SVG and the ability to include symbols in PDF files, again a space saver. You can also preserve layers in your drawing when exporting to Adobe Photoshop and Corel Photo-Paint and choose to import only specific pages from a PDF.

this one package contains enough for anyone from a beginner to a professional like myself to create and publish for print, web and even video (corel rave 2 included allows flash design and exports to flash and some other video formats). in my opinion it does anything that thousands of $ worth of separate adobe boxes can do with their constant $$$ upgrades(i have have used them all and have no use for them any longer) for alot less. much more intuitive too and the coreldraw module is heads/shoulder better than illustrator. the print engine, fonts and clip art/photos by themselves are worth the upgrade price. unlike the adobe products, it allows imports and exports to just about anything imaginable, including the adobes, autocads, etc. the photopaint (comparable to photoshop) module readily accepts photoshop plug-ins and the whole program now integrates some of the best features from newly-acquired micrografx's highly acclaimed draw and picture publisher. the lens flares alone are something to behold. i've never had any problems sending files to printers, service bureaus, etc. whether they are adobe, quark, pc, or even mac from my pc. coreldraw has been highly overlooked for years as schools only teach adobe on the macs they got deals from, from apple, but this right here my friends, continues to be a certifiable adobe-killer! sweeet! and my mac friends are slowly and unhappily converting too :) don't forget the free wacom tablet from...corel. thank you!

I got this for Pages 2 (I'm upgrading from Pages 1) - and I don't really see much difference, aside from some new templates. Nevertheless, it is a better program for page layout than Microsoft Word - and about equal as a word processor. Since there is no upgrade version, I had to pay full price to get it - but then it isn't that expensive. At under $90, the price is quite reasonable. If you're doing page layout on a Mac (newsletters, brochures, etc.) & don't want to shell out the big bucks for Quark or Illustrator, this is an excellent choice.

I got the iWork software after buying my new iMac 24 and was excited to learn how to use the word processing program with all of it's graphics capabilities. I even subscribed to Lynda dot com training for a month to learn all of the program's capabilities. I have not used the presentations software program yet but the word processing was extremely frustrating to a person who has spent the past 15 years using WordPerfect and Microsoft Word for word processing. I prefer to be able to set up short cuts with icons and I found it extremely confusing trying to learn how to combine graphics boxes, etc., etc., with my word processing docs. And that's really what attracted me to the iMac in the first place! Even after going through the professional on-line training I still can't get around inside the program and function effectively. After several frustrating days of working at it I purchased and installed the new "Parallels" program on my iMac along with a full-priced new version of Microsoft XP and reinstalled my do-able windows programs on my new iMac. So far, buying iWork was a mistake for me and combined with having to purchase Parallels and a $200 Windows XP, an expensive one. I love the screen colors and hd resolution on my iMac but found the Pages program to be too confusing for me utilize as a researcher/writer. I needed to be able to customize the way my documents look with adjustments that are not part of Pages. If your documents are for school or are fairly simple and you can figure out how Apple combines graphics with word processing, maybe it will work for you and it will be cheaper than getting the windows programs. Pages comes with dozens of ready-made templates which look great but as soon as you try to change the way they look confusion sets in, at least it did for me.

I have a PowerBook, an iMac, and an eMac at home that are used in different ways. The kids use the eMac for school work, and my wife & I use the other 2 Macs for home business.

Although most school work was required in MS-PowerPoint or MS-Word, exporting from iWork '06 Pages and Keynote was very simple to do with 90-95% accuracy. Our kids said they just do minor editing at school before submitting the work.

For home business, we use Pages to do our proposals, bills, and receipts. And use Keynote for presentations. One thing that I thought was amazing, is the fact that I can display the notes and the succeeding slide on my PowerBook, while projecting just the current slide for the customer to see.

For the price of the Family Pack, we were licensed to use iWork '06 on 5 Macs on the same network. The cost fitted our budget perfectly. The only thing I wish was available in Keynote was timed transition (example: after 3 seconds show bullet#1, after 5 seconds show bullet#2, after 2 seconds show the chart)

I would not recommend buying this product. I've installed it on two computers, one running XP and one Vista, and this program continually glitches and shuts down. I'll be working away and then it will freeze and I'll tell you, this is extremly frustrating. I'm never running any other programs and many times I'll simply be trying to open a saved file.

I'm not sure why, but this program is seriously flawed! The full version does not have any of these problems, or at least as far as I know. Sibelius should be ashamed for selling such a worthless hunk of software!!!

The Hemera "Photo Clip Art 150,000" contains almost all the images in this collection, but this is nearly 4x the price for 1/3 the images. What is the difference? The images here have about a 20% higher resolution and transparency masks (i.e. Photo Clip Art forces you to have a colored background, but you can have no background with photo objects).

Neither is really suitable for print unless you don't want to print any of the photos beyond 2 inches high/wide. If you're designing for the web, you're usually going to throw a background in behind photos anyway, or if you need the transparency, you can easily select some obscure color for the background and "magic wand" it out in 30 seconds.

So, if you bought the whole photo objects collection, you'd spend nearly ten times as much to get mostly the same photos (i.e. Photo Clip Art has 26 photos of an Asian woman as a nurse while Photo Objects has the same 26 photos plus 3 more) a little larger and with transparency.

If you're a professional designer who would use this extensively, the extra cost might be worth it. But if you're dabbling in web design, get the "Photo Clip Art 150,000" instead and save yourself a LOT of money.

Maybe I am naive but I had assumed these images were in a usable format. Instead, you have to export them, one by one, via a cumbersome 5-step process which is quite pointless and only serves to slow you down. This is not particularly useful to a designer. I just wanted some clip art. Now I see why they charge so little -- they cripple you!

Also I concur that the images are not nearly as good a quality as Hemera would have you believe. All in all, though I love the quantity of images, the quality (and usability) is deeply lacking. Oh, and little would you guess, but if you want more than one computer to be able to use this library (i.e. over a network) you have to call them for a bulk license. Come on! That's what we designers use software like Portfolio for. Not the freeware-quality Hemera Clip Art Thing (tm).

I had high hopes. Now I feel generous in offering two stars for any such products.

As stated on the other reviews, I agree that this package has way too much repeated images. Expect to see over 232 balloons(some in same colors too!), and countless pictures of eggs.
This package needs heavy image editing. I have a feeling the package will end up half the size if all the repeated images were taken out.
Good side to this is that it is very affordable. Though it has a lot of repeats it is worth having. There are still lot of selections to choose from. Just dig dig and dig.

The search engine works very well. It¡¯s pretty easy to locate images with it.
If you have about extra 4.27GB of space in your computer, I strongly recommend copying all the images from 8 CDs to your hard drive for ease of use. Or else, it will constantly ask you to put in different CD each time you are looking for a different image. I don¡¯t know how it's organized but let¡¯s say you are looking for a rose(just an example), 3 out of 5 rose will be on one CD and the rest will be in the other CD. It¡¯s a pain to keep changing CD¡¯s.
For window XP users, you do have to download the latest upgrade from Hemera website.
Personally I think Hemera Photo-Objects 50K Vol I has more interesting selection of images than Vol II.
Either way, if you are a designer this will be pretty nice package to own.

As I went to look for photo objects for my firm, I saw two people standing there holding a box of Hemera's Photo Objects. I couldn't help but tell these two people that the product is worth buying. They have their own design studio and Hemera Photo Objects Volume II is definitely worth owning!

For my business, Hemera's products have saved me a lot of time and money. With Volume 2 of the series, it featured an OS X version which I have been looking for and the search for photo objects in different categories is a blessing.

This review is for the updated version for OS X for my MAC G4.

The new search engine works beautifully and the program will first install the thumbnails (I recommend having quite a bit of drive space... If you are a graphic designer, I'm assuming that you do already). Thus when you type a word, you will see the thumbnails correspond to that word. Those that are bright and colored are for the version you own, if it's faded - those photos are from the other version (in this case VERSION I) that you may want to purchase.

I have had the chance to read the reviews on this product and here's the nitty gritty. For those who are professionals and non-professionals who are looking for photo objects that are non hi-res (600x600) with the option to save as 300DPI, you will love this program.

For designers - To get the best use for these images for bigger print sizes, I save the files as a transparent PNG, instead of TIF when I need to get the image for a project utilizing a larger dimension. Work with your desktop publishing program and export to EPS and then use your Distiller to make the PDF.

If you want a very hi-res version of the photo object, then you will need to purchase it from the company. There are many awesome photos in this collection. With 50,000 images...that is a lot. Sure, there are multiple ones of the same photo but my gosh...for the price. You can't beat that - for many stock photos, it cost $[money]+ for 100 photos. In this case, 50,000 for less than a $[money].

I can't comment on the PC version of this software but for those using the new operating system for the MAC, make sure that you find out that it is the OS X compatible version (the OS X logo on the front of the box).

Do I have a gripe? Not really. If anything, after seeing the photos that are faded out in the search box (the photos for Version I, which I definitely want to buy it now), I wish I picked up Version I as well. And that's definitely what I'm going to do next.

I absolutely hate this software. I too experienced the Vista problems, but after finding their website, I downloaded the update. It worked perfectly from then on. The problem is in the program itself. My main purpose in finding a program such as this was to combine all of my recipes into a database that would allow me to create shopping lists. I cannot stand how you are unable to view the recipe on one page. Even in the recipe view, the screen is split, and the instructions are on one side with the ingredients on another. You cannot copy the recipes and post them into a Word document or email easily, which I do often, when sharing favorite recipes with friends and family. This thing will be headed to the trash immediately. I am just beyond disgusted.

This application is nothing more than a database of recipes, with little functionality found in other programs. I purchased this to manage my own recipes from Mastercook, after having to re-image my computer and needing to buy new software anyway (can't find that old cookbook disc!). I did some research, and the website convinced me to give this product a try. I tried to use this to manage my OWN recipes, not surf through a collection already existing on the software.

CONS:

* Though it can import recipes from "Mastercook," the recipes must be INDIVIDUALLY exported then imported. If you have a backup of mastercook files, this will not work; you need the mastercook software to.

* There is no automatic calculating of nutrition data; it has to be manually re-entered after entering ingredients

* The interface looks crude and outdated; something reminiscent of cookbooks sold for $9.99 in the 1990s.

PROS:

Um....none.

I thought by spending more I'd get more. Oops, good marketing by the vendor, bad judgement from me. Don't be fooled by the website lauding this product.

The Recipe Manager is where I keep all my recipes, its nice to have them all in one place. Importing takes a little effort, I just copied the recipe from the website and Import > From Clipboard, then moved the import tags into the right places and saved it. When I want to share a recipe with a friend I print it out or to PDF and drop it in an email, it makes it quite easy.

I'm fairly new to the computer world. I was hesitant about buying this software because I wasn't sure if I could figure out how to use it on my own. It turned out to be very easy to use. Finding the right clip art is made simple by consulting the index in the manual which is included. The manual shows illustrations of each graphic. Each graphic is also coded B/W or color. My only disappointment was in the packaging for the CD-ROMs. The portfolio provided only 9 storage slots for the 13 CD-ROMs. The other 4 fall out of the box every time I open it. Overall, it's a great value for the amount of clip art it contains.

If you are thinking of getting this product you should. I use this all the time for reports for school. I use to have Coral Gallery but that didn't have as many pictures as this. Also Coral Gallery didn't work as well. This has a picture of almost every thing you might need a picture of. I think this is just as good as one with more graphics. I needed an update for Calendar Creator 4 and bought version 10. Mistake! I've since bought version 5 to try getting back some of the lost functionality that version 4 had, but no luck. I had to jump through some hoops, including keeping a computer with Windows 98, to continue using version 4. Specifically, versions 5 and up have no provision to make event graphics small so multiple events on a given day will both print. Why Broderbund did this, I don't understand, but for my purposes, they ruined the product. I've had a number of Broderbund products and it's readily apparent they don't care if the product serves its purpose or not. I won't buy their stuff again.

I have used iRemember on my Macbook OS 5.5 to make books for children. Even though I am also a scrapbooker, iRemember is just the application for making books for children of any age. I gather photos of the child along with their art work and interview them, their parents, and grandparents to make a book about them. I print the pages on HP Presentation Paper 32# and slip them into page protector for the little hands to turn. The book becomes a photo album as well as a book that they can read about themselves and their adventures. iRemember makes this process easy and fun. I have an 8 year old neighbor that can work the application along side me. How much fun that is! Because the templates are vibrant and easy to modify, the end product is a forever superior quality keepsake. This software has endless possibilities for the creative explorer. I am giving it 5 stars for ease of use, compatibility, choices, and support.

The jury is still out on this one. I love my Apple computer. One of the things I like most about it is the fact that you can do so much with graphics. The scrapbook software is either not as good or more complex than what is available for windows. I like iRemember better than iScrapbook, but I really miss my windows scrapbook software. For one thing, you have to keep buying new templates. It appears that if one is really skilled with the software, one can create just about any template they want, but to get them already put together like they are in the Windows software, you have to purchase them for about $1.50 each.

I love this program! I don't think I will ever do real paper scrapbooking again. Keep in mind, I'm not the most creative person, so the templates were great for me. Within 3 hours, I had learned the program following the tutorial carefully, and created 3 of my own scrapbook pages. The templates were great for beginning. It works great with i-photo. It is easy to slide the photo onto the scrapbook page, center it and make it smaller or larger. I have been known to create 1 page, export it for printing, then drag pictures of a different child onto the same page for another scrapbook page. This only takes about 2 minutes to create the same scrapbook page with a different child's pictures. As I said before, I am not an EXTREME creative person, so this made scrapbooking a cinch for me. I am familiar with photoshop elements and have used it for simple projects, but I find myself using this scrapbook program instead for those projects because I think it is easier to use.

I have been a Mac user for years and I also scrapbook by hand (the old fashioned way). I have done some books at the online print sites, but the backgrounds and templates are limited. I have also used Photoshop.

iRemember is a great product. I downloaded the 15 day trial version first and liked it. I was happy to learn that the full version was exponentially better! It is a great blend of the features found in Photoshop and the ease of the online printers. I was able to jump right in and create beautiful pages. The possibilities are endless! Also, if you don't want to create your own backgrounds, there are several sites that sell digital paper packs pretty cheap and all of those are work easily with this software.

If you are ready to jump into digital scrapbooking, this is a fantastic product at a great price. I would recommend it.

This was a very informative cd. It covered all the periods of the creation of music. From Baroque to Contempory. It had a breif discription on each of the time periods as well as a breif discription on some of the major composers. This program loaded easily onto the computer but it was not very easy to go from composer to composer. Either it loaded incorrectly into my computer or it was bad programming but I had to shut down the program each time I wanted to go to a different composers information. I did not have to do this for the history blurbs though. Very informative but very frustrating.

In a business that's all about buzz, the latest version of Final Draft should enjoy plenty of the good kind. Final Draft 6.0 has kept what works, and added new features that guarantee this scriptwriting software will retain its spot in the limelight. It still handles the myriad technical details of scriptwriting automatically--character names are indented properly, scene headings are capitalized, and the default font is the industry standard 12-point Courier, a holdover from typewriter days. The entertainment industry is surprisingly stuffy when it comes to screenplay formatting and, when properly used, Final Draft can at least ensure your script will look great.

The latest version of Final Draft is designed for Windows XP and carbonized for Mac OS X, but it worked fine on the Windows 98 system we tested it on. A new touch freelancers will appreciate is the ability to save in Adobe PDF format, so scripts can be sent to folks who don't own this software. New cosmetics include a more colorful toolbar, darker font that matches Mac and Windows systems and looks better in print, and bigger windows for the ScriptNotes feature. System enhancements include a smart drag and drop, which automatically adds formatting elements when you move bits of your script. Our favorite new addition is Ask the Expert, a blackboard that writers can visit to refresh themselves on basics like characterization and story arc. It's like a screenwriting class without the has-been teacher and the "I'm better than Spielberg" classmates.

A couple of annoyances: you must "authorize" your system to use Final Draft 6.0 without the CD-ROM. Fortunately there are two authorizations, so you can, for example, use the program on both a desktop and laptop. Also, the much-touted script templates are nearly impossible to find (go to "File," click "New"--we just saved you 15 minutes), and they are not copies of actual scripts but two- to three-page parodies of TV shows, done in what we assume is the specific format for the show. They're worth reading just for laughs, but since the X-Files template still had Mulder listed as a character, we don't think they're 100 percent up to date. --Anne Erickson

Buyer beware: Final Draft incorporates an archaic copy protection scheme that will drive you nuts. Every other category of computer software did away with this kind of user-unfriendly copy protection scheme in the mid-80s, but the screenwriting software vendors persist. You're probably better off using Microsoft Word (which is far more robust) and using a simple formatting utility when you're project is finished. If you have any hard drive crashes or hardware upgrades and you forget to de-install Final Draft you will lose your install keys. Tech support is scarce and the online help system is only good for the most basic information. While it should make your life simpler this product will make your life hell. Avoid it like the plague.

I purchased Final Draft a couple of years ago, and it was the best investment for writing I've made yet. I had loads of story ideas in my head, but had no idea how to write a screenplay or teleplay, and didn't have the patience to read a book about it.

I am a VERY basic computer user and feared formatting software would be nothing short of a nightmare, but within a month I formatted three one-hour teleplays, started on a screenplay, and knew how to navigate the software fairly well. The Smart-type feature is a lifesaver, and the various view, outline, and report features are incredibly helpful and save loads of time.

There are a few features that were more complicated to learn, and as an absolute novice I had some questions that I couldn't find answers for in the program, but overall - I'm thrilled with it and use it everyday.

I'd recommend this software to anyone, rank amateur or paid professional ,who's looking for a user-friendly, helpful, and reliable formatting system.

Final Draft is simply the best there is. Screenwriter is buggy [I borrowed an install from a friend], Scriptware is a joke [based on the demo I tried] and Sophocles doesn't even run on my Mac. If you follow the directions it does exactly what it says it's going to do. It's a professional-grade tool [even though I'm not a professional-grade writer - YET], it's got 24/7 help [that I haven't even come close to needing] and everyone I know uses it [and I do work in the industry]. As far as I can tell the people who have problems with it aren't using it right or they have crappy computers.

Don't mess around with other programs. This one is the one to use.

I've use Final Draft for about 4-5 years and in terms of development as a useful app it has done nothing but sit still. It is in fact a dinosaur, a left-over from a forgotten era when computers (macs in particular) were a pain and totally incompatible. The Mac community has changed dramatically in the past 3 years. Final Draft is, at best, doing the bear minimum.

It continues to be the one app I use on a daily basis that I hate. I hate it because it is buggy, clunky and doesn't conform to MacOS standards. I hate it because it uses proprietary standards for everything (including e-mailing scripts), it fails to take advantage of Quartz smoothing, the toolbar is the ugliest thing I have ever seen, the layout of the program doesn't make any kind of sense, the different "modes" do NOT function as they should, you cannot export into an useful format whatsoever (the only way to send a script to someone is via OSX's built in PDF exporting, and thank god for that), and all the "bonus tools" like scene reports and location reports are utterly useless.

And don't even get me started on the authorization process. I have absolutely no problem with companies requiring some kind of direct consumer-producer contact to authorize that you actually bought the software but the implementation you've developed is unusable. What kind of sense does it make to ask that a person de-authorize their hard drive before they re-format it when one of the only times one must do this is when the system goes down and access to the app is impossible? I've had to do it a few times, and I've moved computers a few times. Every single time I attempt to de-authorize the computer online, it as failed. Oh, it tells me while I'm de-authorizing that everything is honky-dory, but come to find out that it's not and the ONLY way to fix it is to make a phone call. I also have no problem with the phone, but what kind of a company in a multi-billion dollar a year business is not open on the weekends!? This has happened to me in the middle of production and I had to use a pirated version to get my work done.

I could go on about the shortcomings of the app, but I think the point is made.

Beware Final Draft, your days are numbered. Linux is ready to crush Microsoft in the business and server markets because companies refuse to choke down one more piece of bad code and wait in vain for the next "security update" which will do little to protect them against real threats. Businesses are realizing that open industry standards provide them with both flexibility and insurance against obsolesce. Unless you too make this realization, you too will become obsolete.

This is by far the worst quality app on my computer, and the one I use every single day. You want to improve things? Take a look at Mellel. Take a look at anything the Omnigroup is doing, Take a look at Nisus Express (even though it is a half-ass app). Take a look at any cocoa app written in the past year, hell take a good look at TextEdit. Take your costumers seriously and support, for real, open industry standards like RTF and XML, which would make your product easy to use and much, much better.

I just got "Instruments" today, and couldn't help but boast about it. I just can't stop diving deeper into this program. It's like the most wonderful interactive musical encyclopedia you could possibly imagine. Nothing comes close to this if you want a one-stop way to learn EVERYTHING about instruments, ensembles, etc., including HOW THEY SOUND!!
Every musician (from beginners to pros) should have this program. I imagine it would be a very popular learning tool in schools. I wish this was around when I went through music training! Funny thing is, it's a bit humbling because you're likely to LEARN something from it, no matter how educated you are. :-)

Instruments by Sibelius is a must-have software for every music educator. Musicians who have an interest in band and orchestra instruments will also find this interactive, multimedia guide to be a valuable resource. Installation is very simple, even for the novice.

Instruments provides a fairly comprehensive presentation of the instruments, including notated and sound examples, playing techniques, listening lists, pitch ranges, and writing for the instrument family.

Of special interest to the music educator are the student assignments, lesson plans, and a quiz. The student assignments are designed to help students understand the evolution of the orchestra, bands, and other ensembles. Permission to photocopy any of the assignment pages is given to schools and colleges that own Instruments-a big plus. The lesson plans are particularly effective if you have a computer projector to use as a teaching tool. The quiz is designed in a multiple-choice format to test knowledge about the instruments, ensembles, and playing techniques as described in the software.

I'm a composer here in the West Midlands, and I also teach in various schools in the area. I bought this software for my students recently, but after using it for a while and realising just how useful it is I've now bought my own copy for when composing at home.

Basically it's got comprehensive information about almost every orchestral/band instrument you can think of (and a few you won't even have heard of) - but presented in a very useful & interesting way. There are pictures, orchestral & band layouts, instrumental ranges, notated examples from well-known pieces, historical context, plus (most importantly of all) hundreds of excellent audio recordings.

What's more there's complete information about every technique in the orchestration books, from bowing to multiphonics to percussion mallets, again all with recordings. This is completely invaluable stuff, even for a professional composer. Where else (in one place) can you actually *hear* the difference between jete and spiccato, or a cup mute and a Harmon mute? (Or a fingered trill and a lip-trill!) The orchestration books naturally *mention* all these things, but don't of course come with recordings.

There's also a quiz, intended for students I suppose, to test what they've learnt - I tried it out (at the advanced level) and I confess not even I got full marks! (Some of those questions are really tricky...)

Overall, I'd say this is invaluable both as an approachable introduction to instruments for students (even beginners), and as excellent reference material for professionals.

(Disclaimer: I do already use their Sibelius 2 notation software, of which I'm a big fan, so I'm already a bit of a convert.)

"A Good Collection" 2006-12-02

Like the earlier version, this CD has a good collection of images in both BMP and JPG format. Most of them are in color and the quality ranges from fair to quite good.

The CD is called "Religious" and that is a fair description. Most of the images are Christian but there are a few from other faiths as well. Some are so generic as to have no religious connotation at all but even those might be useful on occasion.

The CD is divided into several categories (people, events, crosses, animals, etc) which can make it easier to find what you are looking for. Be advised, however, that the person organizing the folders on the CD did not always know what he or she was looking at. I found a monstrance in the cross folder and lots of crosses scattered throughout other folders.

All in all, I am well satisfied.

"Deceptive packaging" 2001-01-25

This is the worst collection of images I have ever purchased. First, there is a catalog included with the software, but it only shows thumbnails of sample images - NOT the images included on the software. For example, the catalog lists photos in categories Objects III and Objects VII. However, on the CD's included, the only Objects categories you receive are I, II, and VIII. Of course, the one photo I really needed was in the catalog, but not included on the CD's. This is extremely deceiving.

Also, the CD's contain categories called Portraits of People I-XV. This sounds very promising for finding faces to use in artwork. However, many of the folders for each of these categories only contain 1 or 2 photos and 98% of the photographs are of scantily clad women. This coupled with the other categories, Women Mystique and Lovely Ladies, really made me feel that I was looking at soft porn. Finally, there is no rhyme or reason to their categories. One folder may have 2 photos of women on the beach in bikinis and the 3rd photo is of a 10 year old dressed like a cowgirl. Very frustrating trying to find anything. Do not recommend at all if you are looking for photos. However, if you want partially naked women, in extremely cheesy shots, then this is the collection for you.

"My Labels is getting worse" 2005-05-10

I used a previous version of My Labels, and was quite pleased with it. After changing computers a few times, the old version would no longer work with WinXP, so I "upgraded" to the newer version. Here's my gripe list:

1. When I tried to open my old My Labels files, it kindly offered to convert them to the new format. How convenient! Not at all. The data gets converted (duh), but the label design disappears.

2. Entering data is unbelievably frustrating. If you have fields that are the same, you can copy and paste, but that's it. Ctrl-D is supposed to work, but it doesn't really, making you type the same things over and over. Modern software is supposed to increase productivity, isn't it?

3. This is really a stamp selling program. They actually only want you to buy stamps, the software only being a hook to bring you in.

4. Placement of objects is very clutsy and it's difficult to put things close together.

5. Very limited creative options.

I'll never buy this again.

"A True One Stop Shop" 2009-12-10

I've been using F8 for two years and it was what I used for my first sale. A fellow writer, UNK, recommends this as does ScriptPIMP. It's worth the recommendation. It allows me to leave behind all of my note cards, which hold everything from characters to sequences to research notes to general thoughts to loglines and synopses.

All of that is now moved to one file in Movie Outline. You can even reference produced scripts in the same interface and compare analyses and sequence description. It lets you add each element in its own area just a click away, not buried in menus or needing shortcuts.

It has everything that the others have including PDF - and it works on X64 - scene cards, etc. and several others like Feel Factor, Power View, Story tasks.

But the most effective feature is the layout. Everything is right there. I'm just starting on some imports from FD, and it's smooth as silk so far.

I have owned Movie Outline from nearly its inception - 1.0, 2.0 and now 3.0. I have upgraded every time the company released a newer version. With the 3.0 version, which I purchased a year ago, I found there was no other writing software I needed so I sold all of mine -- Dramatica, Final Draft, Story View -- the Truby stuff, etc.

With Movie Outline 3.0 you have EVERYTHING you need to write an excellent screenplay WITH EASE, STEP BY STEP. The step-outlining is a precise way to create a screenplay using step by step construction. It is also fantastic way to LEARN how excellent films are written and created through the process of deconstruction.

Movie Outline 3.0 provides an excellent platform for doing this using blockbuster films and very successful films with the entire film laid out according to scene, structure and turning points.

Although I am an author, I am a real newbie to screenwriting, so I had hoped for something with a few more clues on the basics of screenwriting, rather than what appears to be a fine tool for those who already know them. It does have some remarkable features, and I'm sure that any experienced screenwriter would probably appreciate them.

I started out trying to write a screenplay and lost part of it, became discouraged, and quit. If and when I try screenwriting again, I intend to give it a second chance, but until then, I will just use Microsoft Word.

Apparently, the company is not aware that I bought the package, because I keep getting advertisements without any acknowledgment that I am already a customer and have been for some time.

I've been using Movie Outline for a few months now and am so pleased I made the switch from Final Draft. The software is well designed and intuitive, making it easy to plan my script scene by scene and keep track of all my notes. I'm a big one for lists when writing and rewriting and thankfully this software catered to my needs. Rather than having post-its all over the place I can now collate all my ideas for the story and characters into one place while I'm working on the script. The auto-formatting works with tab and enter shortcuts (like FD) so you don't have to worry about the layout as you type. I haven't used the FeelFactor graphs yet which allow you to track the highs and lows of elements such as tension, scares and romance etc but plan to do so once I get the feedback on my last script and dive in for the rewrite. I did however use the character development tools a great deal to flesh out the main parts and their arcs throughout the story. I've only had to contact technical support once when I needed to reactivate my machine after a lighting strike and they were very helpful and prompt with their reply. All in all a great package with everything I need and more yet to discover.

EDIT: If I could, I would change the One star to a FIVE stars. I'm editing my review because I promised to update it after I contacted the QV company. Here is my NEW review of the QV White Box Edition for the Mac, which I would give 5 Stars:

At first I was extremely frustrated. I couldn't even open a book. But....take their advice and pick up the phone and call them. They have an UPDATE that is essential for you to download. Then, everything will work great! And, using "Hot Corners" I can get all the QV windows to the forefront of my screen with a quick movement of the mouse to a corner of the screen (find Hot Corners in System Preferences/Desktop/then look at the left lower corner to see 'Hot Corners").

Whatever you do, don't give up. This IS a good program, just frustrating at first, and until you get the update. Give it a fair chance and you'll end up very happy.

One thing I fault QV for is not including a User's Manual of some kind. OH, how much easier that would make things. All that's in the box is the CD..... I wanted to cry, because the "Help" section on the toolbar is no help either. I don't know why QV can't make a hands-on manual for us. It would make things a lot more fun too.

Another great piece of advice? Don't buy it at the Apple Store. You can get it new a lot cheaper here. In fact, look all over the net before buying. I saw prices ranging from $15.00 to $50.00 for the White Box Edition. Good luck (that means blessings to you)!

QuickVerse White Box runs okay with Mac OS 10.3.9 (Panther), but will not run with Tiger or Leopard. Installing their recommended updates did nothing to improve this situation Quickverse Mac Bible Study 2007 White Box. I submitted a problem submission form to their Product Support about this problem. I got no response - they completely ignored me. This company that sells Christian software certainly runs their business in a very Un-Christian manner. Don't waste your money on their products.

I am your run-of-the-mill lay person when it comes to the Bible. I wanted a program that could help me to get right to the heart of my questions, concerns, and curiosities. When I saw some of the previous reviews, I was a little hesitant, but thought I would take a risk. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT.

It was very easy to navigate through without having to take the time to go into the "read me" files. Like most family gatherings out there, we manage to get into debates over "what the Bible says" and "what we were brought up in the church to believe". Inevitably, someone always winds up quoting Shakespeare or Ben Franklin, convinced it was God's word. This really makes studying and looking up what the Bible "really says" so convenient. With 10 different Bibles, referencing and STUDYING seem less like a chore, and more like something I look forward to doing. I find myself looking up one topic, and the next thing I know, it's like surfing the internet - going here and there, and 2 hours have gone by. It's a powerful tool - especially when you feel challenged to make sure that Grandpa, Mom, or even the local Pastor is "telling it like it is".

OK - this is about the most user unfriendly product I've purchased for the Mac - EVER! Installed it a few days ago and neither my wife or I can figure it out - I'm no dummy but I simply cannot figure out how to view a specific book in a translation of my choosing - or how to view any of the other books in the library - the Help function is worthless.

Pass on this - there's got to be a better Bible study software solution out there for the Mac!

[This review is for the "Black Box" version which has been out for months, despite Amazon's odd decision to choose a pre-order date of 9/30/07. My comments , however, still apply to the White Box version, though it obviously includes fewer unlocked books and translations (i.e. no NRSV, etc)]

TECHNICAL ISSUE: The Black Box version does not "sleep" well. My Mac has crashed twice I've installed Quickverse (it never had before). Each time was after sleeping with Quickverse running. I'm going to comtact Tech Support about it, but in the meantime, avoid sleeping your Mac(?book?) while Quickverse is running.

TECHNICAL ISSUE: Quotation marks are not rendered correctly in some windows either. I now officially rate this 1 star. NOT worth the price of admission. Stick with online resources until Logos get their Mac version out.

Main Review:

It is important to begin this review with the question "what else is there for a Mac?" The dearth of affordable, non-freeware Bible software for the Macintosh is painful to those of us engaged in academic work. The steadily advancing work on the Mac version of Logos stands as a bright spot on the horizon, but that horizon still appears to be months away (perhaps Christmas will see a "1.0" version?). Quickverse currently fills the gap, but only marginally so.

The software, developed by Parson Technology, is obviously driven by a relatively conservative agenda. The majority of works lean to the "right" and additions such as bible reading plans and prayer journals tend to fail to add to the academic "integrity" of this software. It is, in effect, software for the lay person, not the academician. That being said, the inclusion of the NRSV is a nice step in the right direction-- just not one worth 120+ usd.

I purchased the Black Box edition at a significant discount (under 60) and, at that price, it is adequate. I was still disappointed to see that the majority of "helps" are public-domain, meaning they show their age in numerous areas. The images and maps are nice, but are not always present (the included Holman Bble Dictionary has apparently been stripped of its images). Many of the works carry a noticeably exclusionary tone, but this is again due to their age (and the apparent motivation of the publisher).

The program performs well on the Mac, though load times are sometimes oddly long, especially given the UB nature of the program (moving window frames results in second-long redraw times of "Table of Contents" titles). Searches perform well enough, as does copying passages for inclusion in papers. Some of the comments bout "windows all over the place" are easily remidied by dragging new windows into pre-existing ones (I believe the help file explains this in more depth).

All in all, I'm satisfied with the program but only because I paid less than 50% of the msrp. If I had paid the going price of 120+ I would be rather angry. It will do until Logos gets a Mac version out, at which point I will gladly uninstall it to make room for my "Logos Scholar's Library".

Just this weekend I installed OmniPage Pro X on my Mac Pro running OS X 10.5.7 ("Leopard" with all current updates as of June 15 09). I didn't expect the installer to work, let alone the program -- but, to my pleasant surprise, both worked swimmingly. The program runs slowly, no doubt because it's running with the built-in PPC emulation layer ("Rosetta") but it still did everything it needed to do, just as it always did. Note that this was with a pre-existing PDF -- I have not yet tried to scan directly from within the program, but even if that failed, I would just scan separately with the Epson software and convert to PDF first.

All this said, I do wish Nuance would issue an upgrade. I'd be happy to pay for one to have an Intel-native version that ran faster.

This is a product that Nuance has abandoned for many years. It is not fully Mac designed or friendly. They had to improve installing recently just so it work for being bundled with scanners as a SE. It is not feature parity with its Windows version. After talking with sales/support, I have gotten the impression from them they don't like or understand the Mac market. Don't buy it unless you're willing to fight for a refund. I had to some years ago. I do wish they would improve it so we Mac folks can do some serious OCR work. If you really want a Mac OCR, pound on them to make Omnipage X better, or go with ReadIris, which is OK but not as well done as Windows Omnipage 16. Oh if you are thinking of using a VM tool with Omni16, they wont let you due to how product activation is done. A shame, they could be making money instead of making buyers go elsewhere. But they own the OCR market and can afford to ignore the Mac world. Be warned.

I have been using this latest edition of Omnipage with my Mac OSX 3.9 without even reading the instructions. The last version I used was several years ago because I had received ReadIris with my scanner. I found ReadIris SO frustrating I just quit using it. It never worked accurately nor correctly for me -- and I had been spoiled previously with the ease of Omipage.

Recently I acquired this latest version of OmniPage and was able to immediately use it -- based on my experience several versions ago. It has run successfully for me and I find it to have improved accuracy in character recognition and enhanced capability for text layout.

For example, I had a complex pdf file, originally constructed in landscape orientation that I needed to OCR. I scanned it in in portrait orientation...and Omnipage recognized and automatically adjusted the orientation as it was loading the document. Amazing! It then correctly identified the zones of the 45 page document -- and accurately OCR'd them. Finally, when I captured the OCR text in a Word document, it formatted it correctly, just like the original document.

I can only imagine the capability that this program offers (if I read the instructions!)

this product is the first of this type that i have ever used. for a beginer it was easy to understand and use. it has a few bugs but not to bad. newer versions are out but haven't tried them. this particular one isn't updatable.i use it for personal use and don't mind it, for the most part it does what i want it to.i'm inexperieced in the use of cad so am learning by error.i find it fun and friendly to work with.

This is the most frustrating software I've ever used. I would like to Punch! the programmer. I've used older versions of 3DHome Architect and loved them. I have completely renovated my home using 3D and have added a sunroom with it. I could never completely grasp the stairs feature or roof features. Very confusing. I purchased Punch! because I loaned the 3D program to someone else and didn't get it back and thought I would give this one a try. I am pretty adept at figuring out software, but I really felt angry and frustrated with this program to the point of wanting to seriously throw my whole computer out the window or beat it senseless with a large hammer. If you are looking for a good design program, this IS NOT IT. The reviews for the lastest 3DHome Architect don't sound good either, so I am going to try to return this stupid thing and get Home and Garden's version. I hope this is helpful.

I am planning a major kitchen remodel. Unfortunately I discovered that my daughter had managed to break the CD to our Sierra Home Architect. I bought this Punch product hoping it would work similiarally. I was unempressed with the kitchen item selection and still can't walk through my design. The fly over is just a little better. Objects take a very long time to appear on the floorplan.

I will be offering my copy for sale as one of the used ones. I know it is wishful thinking that someone will take the product off my hands after reading this review.

Wow, I should have read the review first...like everyone. But the box makes it sound so simple. I cannot even begin to list my complaints about it but I will say that I only bought it to redesign my fireplace. The box shows fireplaces but I couldn't figure out how to insert one. And getting the little man into the room was like playing an impossible video game with the energizer bunny on speed. Ridiculous. But I will return this product for a refund. What junk!

The only complaint I have about this game is that it doesn't work on some computers, like Gateway laptops. It never loads. It just never loads. I waited half an hour and it just froze. But the gameplay is pretty fun and easy (Except that if you push jump to many times, StickyKeys comes up. I'd advise you to change the key to N) and the graphics are ok. If you like racing, it's an okay game.

I paid good money for this to run on my iMac 10.4.x and it crashes after using it awhile. I've lost many edits like this. No one seems to have the first clue why it doesn't work. It's just a faulty program. I'm pretty much turned off of Adobe so I don't recommend anything they make. Any company that produces trash and doesn't fix it isn't worth doing business with.

I've use PS element 4 for PC and now have PS element 4 for mac. It's pretty much the same except for one things...and that 1 thing makes it frustrating. There is only a edit tap. there is no view and Organize tap. They now have a different component, which i can't seem to load. Also, the process is very slow. I upgraded my Macbook to 2Gig Ram and still it crawls. When i ope PSElement 4, i go make a pot of coffee, drink a cup, watch a little tv, play a song on the guitar and the return only to see it still frozen. But eventually, it comes up.

It does reasonable editing, and at about the same level of technical detail I need, but the software denies access to the bridge browsing program, saying I have to have other Adobe programs installed! Duhhh. . so now I can't even browse thumbnails of my image files with it!

I purchased this product for my almost 4 year old boy. He loves Jay Jay, in general, and has enjoyed the game, also.

The only problem I can see with the game, so far, is that one of the 5 or so games you need to complete in order to "win" is hard for ME to complete as an adult - - even at the lowest level. In it a downhill skier needs to quickly click on the correct numbered flag as they fly by. Although my child can correctly identify the numbers he is supposed to be clicking on, his hand-eye coordination isn't what it needs to be to be able to succeed...or even begin to progress through that game. The other games are all age appropriate and fun and he enjoys them.

The only possible other problem I could see is that a child much older than 4 would probably get through the games too quickly and then become bored with it, although I am making this comment knowing that there are 3 levels to the games and we have only tried the 1st level.

Overall, I give this game a high rating for being kid-friendly (with the exception of the skiing game) fun, educational, and SAFE for kids to use without parental guidance/supervision.

"Great Cooking and Shopping Aid" 2009-02-07

I've only had this software for about a month, but so far I'm finding it VERY useful. You can add your own recipes or get recipes from their extensive online database. It will also allow you to import recipes from other programs.

The two things I have found most useful are the shopping list and nutritional analysis features. My husband is diabetic, so we have to count carbs, and this program allows me to put in my own recipes and calculates the nutritional information for the recipes. The nutritional analysis is based on information from the USDA National Nutrient Database, and the program also lets you add your own items in (this is useful if you want to add something like a pre-made pasta sauce for example). While it is possible to find a lot of this nutional information online for free (at the USDA website or calorieking.com), that can be a real hassle because you have to look up each ingredient and manually make the calculation, where this program does the calculations for you once you enter in the ingredients. In addition to the standard nutrients (fat, calories, protein, carbs, etc...), this program will give you a full analysis including various vitamins, caffeine, and phytosterols. You can also customize what nutritional information is displayed if you are only interested in certain ones.

The Shopping List feature is awesome. You can basically add all of your recipes for the week to the shopping list, and it will create a list of all the items you need sorted by store aisle/section - this is a HUGE time saver!

My only 2 complaints about the software are:

(1) It seems you have to enter the ingredients quantities under the recipe and then again under the "ingredients" tab (which it uses for the nutritional analysis). When you add the items in the "ingredients" list, they show up on the "recipe" page as well, but their quantities show up blank and then you have to re-enter them (or usually I just leave them blank, but this could be a nuisance if you were wanting to share the recipe with others....)

(2) The graphical user-interface for the program is a bit clunky. It is functional, but it certainly isn't nice to look at it, and is not necessarily intuitive. However, the help files are good, and it doesn't take too long to figure out how things work. I also like the fact that so many things in the program are customizable.

Overall, the program is definitely worth the money just for the shopping list and nutritional analysis features alone. I haven't actually tried using any of the recipes that come with the program yet, but some of them look like they'd be good.

"Steep learning curve, but worth it" 2009-09-28

This is an awesome piece of software, but it doesn't appear to be so when you begin.

The first time I opened it, I was aghast at how ugly it was. All of the questions seemed elementary and silly to me and I felt like it was a huge waste of time. I shut it down and walked away from it. Then, about fifteen minutes later I realized what I had done in the short span of time of fiddling around with the program. I'd added multiple characters to a novel that I'd been struggling with, added tension and drama, and found ways to get over the problems with it that had been causing my writer's block.

So I opened Dramatica Pro right back up again.

I worked on it late into the evening, filling out information on my characters and plot. It was exhausting and irritating at times, and there were a lot of things that didn't apply to my plot. Simply ignoring the aspects that didn't add anything to the novel didn't seem to hurt anything, though, and by having to think about whether or not something DID add something to the novel made me consider things in ways I hadn't before. I discovered depth and symbolism and themes I hadn't even considered, simply by having to answer question after question after question.

When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I wanted to do was get started on the scene by scene breakdown of the novel. On each scene, it reminds you of different aspects of your story and characters. Again, you don't have to follow the formula they lay out for you. If it doesn't make sense to introduce your antagonist in chapter two then simply don't do it. This is all here for guidance and inspiration, it's not something written in stone.

If you need help working out how character A meets up with character B and they both get to point C, this is the software for you. It doesn't answer the questions for you, but it gets you thinking in a way so that you can answer the questions yourself.

The thing I like most about Dramatica Pro is that it asks some very good questions about your characters, plot and settings, forcing you to think about those issues thoroughly. Of course, one could also just get the book and derive the same ideas from there, but the strength of the program is that it automatically relates those elements with each other in a fairly consistent manner. The drawback is that at some point it reaches almost ridiculous levels of detail, leaving you just to fill in the scenes. For me this doesn't work at all, since I like to change my plot around as I go, so I usually stop at a higher level. But by then I generally have a much better idea of the direction of the story than before.

The interface is fairly crummy for this day and age. I would have liked better text editors, for one, since writing long descriptions tends to be a tedious affair in those little text boxes with that tiny, unchangeable font.

So all in all I think it's a good idea if for the elaborate questionnaire alone, but only for that it is perhaps a bit overpriced.

The sad truth is that there are no great software products for creative writing. With all the great reviews this product was getting I decided to purchase it. After installing it, I realized I needed to do a bit of homework before I could use it. I tried but eventually gave up and resorted back to just using a word processor.

The user interface is terrible. It looks like something from the 80's. They need to rework the interface to bring it up to current standards.

I should say that I am not a professional writer. It's possible that someone who writes as a career could fine this to be a worthwhile product. For myself, I was just looking for a creative writing tool to help me get started.

I'm a writer, here's my story. I bought Final Draft mainly because I felt I needed to upgrade from Microsoft Works or get left behind. Well, I've worked with Final Draft for a while, and to be honest I do not think it was worth the $150.00 dollars + postage. It's very hard to format scripts, especially ones that had been saved in other formats - it adds all these extra spaces and it's terribly time consuming to remove them. Also, it sometimes adds in a character heading when one isn't needed and it's very difficult to get rid of those showing up all the time.

I cannot figure out how to use the Tagger part at all. The most disappointing part for me was that it DOES NOT read the scripts back - it does however save your script in a new format that you cannot add to. And finally my last complaint is that the disk explaining how to use it is NOT INCLUDED and sells for $30.00 extra bucks. Now, maybe it's just my computer - it's an Everex with Microsoft Windows XP that's not even a year old. Maybe it's just my bad luck.

Final Draft is so great for anyone looking to work with scripts. It's not that script writing is terribly difficult, it's just a lot of tedious formatting. This program makes it so simple and easy to write out a script and make it look polished and professional. As an added bonus, it's set up to work with Toon Boom Storyboard Pro - which just makes film making so much easier.

As most of you probably know, working on a film from start to finished is a lot of work; programs like Final Draft, Toon Boom's Storyboard Pro, FrameForge 3D Studio 2, etc. are great tools that help people who don't have a lot of resources create professional results and cut down on the immense amount of time that it would take (especially one person or a small group) to finish an entire film.

Overall, this is a great product that I haven't had any problems with at all.

I bought this years ago and I have gotten much use out of it. Before this software I had to do everything manually and it made the process so slow. The software makes the process fast and increases you productivity by at least 10 times. Changing from dialogue, to action is one click of the tab key, the enter key with scene changes. For the most part it is fairly simple to use but there are features you need to do a little research on before you use them. You can just jump into this but I recommend taking the time to go through the manual. It didn't take me long until I new exactly what I was doing.

It also has a feature for writing a novel, which is good and gives you some pointers but I find Microsoft Word to be the best program for that. Even using Microsoft Word for Novel writing you can still use this program to answer question you might have about style or format. There are links in the program that take you to the writers guild and allow you to copyright your work for up to 10 years. The cost is reasonable, it was $20.00 about 7 years back. There are also links where you can share your work with others and submit it for a proof read, though copyright it first.

Its a great product, especially for beginners. It teaches you how to format your screenplay and makes it simple and fast. They have a pretty decent customer support if you ever need to use it. I did when I swapped a computer out and I had to swap a license which I believe you get 2 with the software. If your into writing this is the product for you, hands down. It is much cheaper, I paid close to $500 for it in 2002.

But I've had so many problems with the software, (I'm PC based), and have had no response from Technical Support, email or otherwise. The links on their site mainly are dead. I am planning to buy the competitor product. Screenwriter has been a frustrating program, and a waste of my money.

Some of the recurring problems:

- Generates roughly a third of the script's breakdown, then stops.

- "Print to PDF" function consistently creates a blank PDF file.

This all started when I began writing a screenplay on spec. I setup my Word program with as much of the Hollywood standard format as I could, but I started having problems with certain elements (e.g., parentheticals within dialog, CONT'd's at the end of pages). So I picked MMS because it seemed to be the most powerful at the lowest cost. I also liked that it had play and novel formats. It did a decent and fairly painless job of importing my screenplay from Word. Unfortunately, it turned many of my shot headings into character elements for dialog. I had to manually fix all these, but MMS made changing the type of element fairly easy.

So far, my only real negative is with scene headings. Hitting enter after a scene heading, a list of possible time references comes up (day, night, continuous, etc.). I often like to use SAME TIME as a time reference, but I haven't found any way to add or change the list.

Otherwise, I'm very satisfied with the program so far, and it does so much a regular word processor won't do for you.

I'll keep this short because I'm supposed to be writing! I used to use Final Draft for all my TV work (Wire In The Blood, Hornblower). I even recommended it to the BBC when they still used Word for screenplays. Then a friend and producer showed me Screenwriter and I have never looked back. It's far more intuitive than FD in so many ways, it makes it easier to just concentrate on the text. And technically Screenwriter is far more solid - I have never used a version of Final Draft that didn't have numerous really irritating bugs, which tech support could never seem to resolve despite endless patches. I haven't patched Screenwriter for years quite simply because I don't need to - it just works. I'm sorry I ever backed FD now, but it's almost the standard program in the UK. I often write my stuff in Screenwriter and import it into FD for submission.

Note that FD tech support costs money whereas Screenwriter's doesn't. How can the smaller company afford to provide free tech support? I suspect the answer is simple: that hardly anyone ever needs it. And to the reviewer who complained about the CUT TO's clogging up his script: you can switch all that stuff off you know!

For a daily check of transit aspects, and the swift movement of inner planets through houses, the Astrology Source can't be beat. I find that my high end software can give "too much information" to use everyday.

The interpretations are lacking in depth, and a good book (Planets in Transit/Robert Hand) is indispensable for adequate comprehension of important events; but this is the program where you will notice these events, as its ease of use means it is likely it will get used!

Yes, it needs the patch offered at the M-2K website to work with birth times after noon. Just click on the downloaded patch & it's fixed. (it may say "target not found" but I've found it works). Without the patch, PM birth times will mysteriously switch to AM, but this little program is certainly worth its modest price.

I have been using Final Draft since version 4. After endless crashes of version 6 on my Mac, I finally upgraded to version 7. Although I haven't had the classic v.6 total wipeout crash (where you can't even open the last saved version of your file or it opens blank), today I had a nice surprise where the scene numbering dropped down into the action. Not wanting to do a scene re-number I was forced to go to an earlier auto save version. AUTO SAVE OFTEN!

I was too slow to return this version or I'd me on Movie Magic already. No updates that mean anything the entire time I've used FD, and with 7 they screwed up the Navigator, a feature I actually liked! I won't even get into the hopeless lack of keyboard shortcuts and cheesy incomplete porting to Mac.

Don't waste your money! FD6 is out there for "evaluation," and you won't need activation.

I recently bought this after reading the review at [...].

Despite a few technical glitches, I found this software met my modest goals, and I covered a lot of new material.

As an intermediate-level player that hadn't played in years, I wanted something to help me improve my skills in a more structured way than trying to find appropriate sheet music on my own, but without the financial and time commitment of private lessons.

First, if using software rather than paper sheet music, you need a digital piano with a MIDI interface to your PC, with the piano keyboard set in front of your PC's monitor. I'm using a Casio PX-120 an an Xmidi 1X1 USB interface.

Interesting aside: when I placed my keyboard on my metal stand, I got a horrifying sound when I hit D# - apparently the stand's resonant frequency, a problem solved with a bit of self-adhesive felt.

The Good:

For each piece or selection thereof, you can hear what the piece is supposed to sound like.

For some exercises, you can get automated feedback on how you played, with the errors tagged on the score, e.g. a missed or wrong note hit, or note held too long.

For other exercises, you can play along to a recorded ensemble.

Along with the music, audio clips are provided with interesting background trivia on the composers and their music but I'd rather read these than listen.

The not so good (are you listening emedia?):

There's not a good way to print a score as there is with online Scorch sheet music.

You cannot expand the window to see a whole page of music at once.

It's possible to lock the program up by trying to set various while audio is being played.

I found the metronome far too loud, with no obvious way to adjust its volume. I wound up just using the metronome built into my keyboard.

I had to keep the CD in my PC to use all the features.

Otherwise, I don't see how I can afford to buy this! Let's use car products and services as a comparison. Tires I will gladly pay $100 each for, considering the value they offer me and my passengers in comfort and safety. The same goes for shock absorbers. But a collection of comic books? Please! Look, you can buy issue no. 2 of this series in F (Fine) condition for about the same price, and that would be an outstanding investment on your part. In ten years, it will probably be worth twice as much. And, depending on how old you are, the price you sell it for at retirement could be as high as $1,000! Many of the Avengers stories have been reprinted in one form or another. Many more of the original comics after issue no. 200 are dirt cheap in NM (Near-Mint) condition and can be found in your local comic book store. Sorry, this is too much money for a DVD, and the Captain America collection that is being offered for $600 right now is, quite frankly, RIDICULOUS! Get a grip. These are comic books, not a brake overhaul!

One final note: The prices being asked for by the seller(s) amounts to greed, pure and simple. Nothing less, nothing more. Come on... admit it... YOU'RE GREEDY! I understand about the "law" of supply and demand. That applies more to tangible goods that people really need, not collectibles. The original comic books are truly rare, and in near mint condition, are good investments and have earned their price tags after decades in the market. I could see paying $100 for this item (double retail), but not $200. And the $600 being asked for the Cap series is off the scale greedy. I don't care how long you leave it posted for that price. NO NORMAL PERSON IS GOING TO BUY IT! If someone pays the asking price for these two DVDs, they are obviously in a tax bracket that allows them to do so. However, even if I made $150,000 a year, I still would not pay this much money. Resist the urge to pay these high prices... show some discretion and stick with the rest of us poor schmucks in solidarity. Eventually, our protests will bring the price down. All in all, any of the GIT corp collections ("the 40 years of" anyways) are well worth the [...] you pay for them. Any complaints about missing crossovers will apply to ANY comic title. Think about the story lines that jump not only around the X-titles but leapt to The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, ect.

I've purchased the 40 years of X-men, Iron Man, Avengers and Spider-Man and love them all. About the only complaint I have is an issue with Adobe having issues with some disc burning software that seems to include a 3rd party PDF reader that will only display the 1960's issues of these GIT corp discs.

You're still getting over 400 comics for really great price, complete with original ads and the ability to print anything you want. Definitely worth the price.

I'm hoping that DC comics will follow suit.

Incredible in nearly every way. Okay - giant sized aren't included, but all else is perfect. This seems to be the set that received the least acclaim - it settled into a somewhat mediocre run during comics' hottest times, and picked up again when most interest was waning. However - it has some of the greatest stories in its core run, and its history seems to be the least reflected upon through re-visitations, etc. and I know that as a collector, I'd even dropped it, but was still collecting West Coast Avengers - YIKES!

Now, we can peruse through its entire set in the comfort of our own cozy chair with a laptop... Okay - I know that doesn't SIT well, but for the price - and even now in its hyper-inflated price ($100 - YIKES!), it is still a bargain.

These comics detail the silver age in its glory. To study the stories, art, slow decline, collapse, and then reforging are amazing. We bought Dance Praise for our 12-year-old son. There are 3 levels to choose from; lots of good songs. Our whole family likes it - me, my 12 and 10-year-old sons, my 7-year-old daughter, and my husband (however, the mat tends to move around too much for my husband). It's a good workout - my son said his calves were burning after spending about 1/2 hour dancing. Great way to get some excersize without even realizing it!

But whereas the Windows 95 and Windows 98 Plus! editions blended several genuinely useful applications such as disk management tools and virus checkers with the usual stable of multimedia tweaks, Plus! for Windows XP offers more fluff than substance. Although newbies will undoubtedly find much of the collection quite compelling, veteran users may not be so impressed.

The program is divided into four distinct categories--Digital Media, Games, Screen Savers, and Themes--each of which may be accessed through a single, convenient graphical interface. Of these, the Digital Media component is clearly the deepest and most interesting. Its handy utilities include an MP3 audio converter for transforming disk-hogging WAV and MP3 files into space-efficient WMA format, a music playlist organizer known simply as Personal DJ, an exceedingly capable CD label maker, 20-plus Media Player skins, and three animated Media Player visualizations (including one culled from the Xbox game Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee).

Music and video fans in particular will immediately gravitate to the Voice Command for Windows Media Player module, which allows users to operate most Media Player functions by issuing verbal commands into their computer microphone. Even when faced with garbled enunciation and loud background music, Voice Command faithfully recognizes commands such as "Volume Up" and "Pause." Sadly, Microsoft's seemingly innovative Speaker Enhancement tool is ultimately little more than a glorified tone control that often hinders rather than improves the sound of your speakers.

Of the three games included in the package, the most intriguing is Russian Square, a deceptively addictive puzzle affair that plays like a one-dimensional offspring of Tetris and Rubik's Cube. Far less involving are the arcade bowling knock-off HyperBowl and the three-dimensional Labyrinth, a virtual take on the real-life game that involves a tilting table, metal ball, and lots of ball-gobbling holes. Eight animated screen savers and four desktop themes complete the package, the most notable of which is the stunningly lifelike and absolutely gorgeous underwater screen saver called "Aquarium." Otherwise, the program's themes and screen savers are no better than those that can be downloaded free of charge from various Web sites.

With Plus! for Windows XP, Microsoft has assembled a multipronged mixture of useful and not-so-useful multimedia tools and lighthearted amenities into one easily accessible compilation. While the idea behind this product is great, it just doesn't come out that way in the end. I recently upgraded my video card to GeForce 4 MX 5200, and now the Plus! screensavers (i.e. the aquarium and others) do not display correctly.

The games are okay, but only the Labyrinth is worth playing. There is a link on Microsoft's website to download for free more bonus levels for Labyrinth, but everytime I download the free upgrade, the levels never get installed into the game. The download .exe file is a self-extractor, so there's no way to control it. I have tried to get the extra free levels three times now, and it NEVER works!

If you want the aquarium screen saver, buy the boxed version from SereneScreen! It is EXACTLY like the one in Plus! and only costs $19.oo! This is what I did last week, and the SereneScreen aquarium screensaver works fine on my computer with the new graphics card!

Someone in another review said that Microsoft Plus! was a good example of "bloat-ware". I agree 100% -- lots of pretty packaging, lots of hype, lots of teaser write-ups on the box, but in the end there just isn't much to the package.

I found the installation to be a little confusing and very time consuming. I was hoping to be able to install all fonts at once, instead of clicking on each individual font. The Mac version of this program is TERRIBLE. It takes 3-10 seconds for each keystroke or command to appear on the screen, and I have a fast dual-processor G4 PowerMac. I'm amazed that this thing made it to the shelves in its current condition. And this is even AFTER applying the patch that's supposed to correct the slowness. I've been seeing reports this all over the net - dont buy this for Mac, as it's just about unusable.

I recently switched Windows to Mac. Since Dreamweaver includes both versions, I thought I could deactivate my Windows machine, and install it on the Mac. After calling their customer service department twice, I was told that this is not possible. Once you activate the product on one platform, you have to buy it again if you want to use it on a different platform.

I might be willing to pay for an upgrade if they were offering a Universal Binary, but currently they are not. They might even view Intel Mac's as a different plaform the Power PC Mac's and try to charge me again if they release an Intel version.

Because their licensing is such a pain, I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I am an intermediate guitarist and this method is meant for beginning guitarists and not for those who have played a few years. First off the video is bad bad bad. You can only view the instructor in a small box and seldom is he seen. You mostly see typed songs, chords and hear audio.What is really horrific is that the syncopation of the audio meter and the graphics are not in sync.Rather the graphics meter is ahead by 3 counts of the audio.Thus it is impossible to follow along.What you are really learning is how to play simple 3 chord songs that beginners should learn. This is a TOTAL waste of money. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

I have read a gazzillion books, visited as many web sites and the guitar has always been a damn mystery to me. Sure I can bang out a few chords and play House of the Rising Sun, but that's about it. This program has clicked with me more than anything else I've ever tried. After about a month, I really feel like I can play the silly thing! Now I can go back and understand what all the other books were trying to tell me! Get this: I went into a guitar store and plugged in an expensive Strat and played it without feeling stupid!

The approach appeals to my nonlinear thinking. You can work through the lessons, skip ahead and then go back. I won't say I've mastered anything yet, but I'm playing and enjoying! I'm recommending this to everyone! I if you can read tabs and understand basic open chords START with this program! Mostly I've been working on Crying and screaming lead techniques (bends, hammer-ons, pull offs slides, etc.) and barre chords.

I'm going to get the advanced programs when I'm done with these!

eMedia intermediate guitar method is an excellent system to expand on your beginner skills. I have now been playing guitar for four months and have gotten better than some of my friends that have been playing for over a year. I finished the CD so I am lending it out now to these same friends.

I started out with the eMedia beginner guitar method and soon after bought this CD. I had attempted to play guitar for perhaps two days before this present time. From this series, I am now comfortable with chords, barre chords, bass walks, finger picking (arpeggios and travis style), hammer-ons, pull-offs, trills, and reading notes. The method has gotten me excited to buy my first electric guitar, practice bends, and learn more about lead guitar playing.

The stuff you learn to play on this CD simply sounds cool. There is a sweet Grateful Dead tune, All Along the Watch Tower, several classic rock pieces, an excellent 12-bar blues solo, there is some country/bluegrass, a few classic guitar pieces (Bach, Pachelbel), and an amazing Jimi Hendrix solo for All Along the Watch Tower. All the songs are recorded from a live guitar player so you will know how each song will sound. When I first browsed through the CD, I thought to myself "There is no way I will be able to sound like that". And yet after much practicing, I got through the CD, can play all the pieces well, and am so happy that I am now a decent guitar player.

I continue to be excited to learn. I think the Fretboard Logic series will help me develop a better understanding of the fretboard and build up my lead guitaring skills.

I wanted to add this review to show that this system is still a great way to learn. I am thankful to eMedia for putting out a product that is showing me that it is never to late to learn to play guitar. To add to the pluses as detailed elsewhere: many great pieces that you will be excited to learn, both standard and tablature notation so that you can learn both methods of reading, etc. The minuses: does not cover fretboard/CAGED organization.

After completing the first volume, I was nothing but impressed with the emedia material. I'd conquered campfire chords! Now is where the cool stuff starts, Volume 2, and it too is excellent. The great thing about Emedia's approach is how it breaks down the teaching of a new technique. After explaining and demoing the technique a short, usually interesting (but not always), song is presented that exactly covers that technique being taught. It avoids the pitfall of other guitar teaching material, which is use some ultra-mind-numbing, hardly melodic bit to practice the execution of the technique. The well paced introduction and progression of technique building really suits me well. My only concern is that I'm potentially developing bad habits, this is where a good teacher is a must. The chord and scale directories are great, but it would've been nice if the scale directory took better advantage of the guitar's range. I find I use the metronome quite often too. Good stuff!
